French President Emmanuel Macron was confirmed positive for corona virus, French Presidential Palace announced December 17.
"The French President has been diagnosed with Covid-19," the Presidential Palace announced December 17. "This conclusion is made after the President has been tested for PCR at the time of his first symptoms".
French Prime Minister Jean Castex confirmed President Macron would quarantine himself. The presidential palace also said Mr Macron would continue to work and carry out remote missions, participating in video calls. The agency is also identifying people who have contacted the French president to update them.
It is not clear how Macron became infected with Covid-19. On December 10-11, Mr. Macron attended the Council of Europe meeting with the heads of state.
Castex will also quarantine himself for having been in contact with Macron in the past few days, French Senate President Gerard Larcher said.
The Élysée Palace said Mr Macron would cancel all visits, including the one to Lebanon on December 22.
Mr. Macron is the latest world leader diagnosed with Covid-19. Earlier, in October, US President Donald Trump was also identified positive for the virus. Other leaders suffering from Covid-19 are British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
