The US military on December 17 warned its warships would be more aggressive in responding to actions that violate international law, only by name of China and ambitions in the East Sea.
In the newly released document on the future goals of the US navy, marines and coast guard over the next few years, the Pentagon highlights that some countries "are challenging the balance of power in these regions. and seeks to undermine the current world order ".
The document addresses Russia and China by name, according to AFP.
"Our globally deployed naval forces encounter Russian and Chinese military warships and engines every day," the document describes.
The Pentagon says Russian and Chinese forces are "increasingly aggressive". The US Department of Defense documents also refer to China as "the most dangerous and long-term strategic threat".
The last meeting between the US Navy and China was publicly announced at the end of August.
The Beijing side claimed to have the warships chased away US military ships in the East Sea. The US asserted that its naval ships properly exercised rights to freedom of navigation near Vietnam's Paracel Islands, where China was illegally occupied and imposed unreasonable maritime claims.
The Pentagon says the Chinese navy has increased the size of its operational force "more than three times in just two decades". To maintain a strategic advantage over the adversary, the US Navy plans to accelerate modernization with a smaller but more mobile fleet, including remotely controlled ships.
"American warships will accept tactical risks in the calculated level and apply a more drastic attitude in daily activities", the statement of the Pentagon stressed.
According to Rear Adm. Jay Bynum, director of the N72 War Research Department, of the Office of the Chief of Staff of the US Navy, this announcement means that future US warships will react more quickly and decisively.
