A Singaporean woman who contracted Covid-19 in March while pregnant gave birth to a baby with antibodies to the virus.
This is the latest case showing evidence of the possibility that Covid-19 can be transmitted from mother to child.
Babies born this month do not have Covid-19 but have antibodies to the virus, the Straits Times newspaper reported on November 29, citing the baby's mother - Ms. Celine Ng-Chan.
"The doctor suspected I passed anti-Covid-19 antibodies to my baby during pregnancy," said Celine Ng-Chan.
According to the Straits Times, the mother used to have Covid-19 with mild symptoms and recovered after 2.5 weeks of hospitalization.
So far, the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed it is unclear whether pregnant women with Covid-19 can transmit the virus to the fetus.
Previously, doctors in China had reported some antibody findings in babies born to women with Covid-19, and the antibody was slowly deteriorating, according to an article published in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases October.
In the journal JAMA Pediatrics, doctors from Columbia University Irving Medical Center in the US in October said that corona virus transmission from mother to infant is very rare.
